Hello! My name is Sydney and I am a Mental Health Counselor-LP with a Master’s degree from SUNY Old Westbury. I am experienced in individual, family, and group therapy. I have worked with children, teens, and adults for a variety of mental health concerns including substance use, anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, and trauma.
I utilize an integrative approach to treatment consisting of psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. I also work with a multicultural lens exploring how intersecting identities may impact clients and their mental health. I believe the therapeutic relationship is the core of therapy, therefore I aim to establish trust, comfort, and safety with my clients. My goal is to assist clients in processing emotions, managing symptoms, and developing new perspectives. I look forward to being a part of your mental health journey.
I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern completing my Master’s degree this summer at Long Island University. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at SUNY Old Westbury. I have experience serving and advocating for children and their families facing various adversities. I have worked with all age groups from toddlers to older adults in both individual and group counseling settings, with a focus on teens and young adults. My work includes supporting those experiencing anxiety, depression, gender identity conflicts, grief and loss, trauma, autism, life transitions, and school or socialization related anxiety.
I am fluent in Spanish and hope to assist in the acceptance and normalization of psychotherapy in the hispanic community. I am mindful and respectful of my clients’ cultures and beliefs, where I aim to learn and incorporate their values in session. I believe therapy is very individual to the person and approaches can be bridged together to best suit the client. Some therapeutic approaches I gravitate towards include CBT, ACT, Person Centered, Mindfulness Based Therapy, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy. I strive to create a safe, laid-back environment where you can feel welcome to be vulnerable and know you are being received with compassion and support. I look forward to working in collaboration with you as you achieve your goals for better mental health!
